I’m in a traffic jam!

Wow, I'm in a traffic jam, and even though I'm not driving, it sucks.
When the BART extension to Millbrae was completed, my company changed the shuttle schedule so that now taking Caltrain from the city to work is slower than taking BART to Millbrae and riding a shuttle from there to work. The problem with that is the shuttle can get stuck in the same traffic I would get stuck in if I drove. And that's what is happening now.
Is there some basic piece within people that hates to wait, or is it a societal trait? It's definitely true for Americans. Just look at our food.
